The 20 Dollars US gold coin, known as the Double Eagle, was struck from 1850 to 1933. It exists in two types according to the effigy: the Liberty head, 1850 to 1907, and the Saint-Gaudens type, 1907 to 1933. It is 900 thousandths fine, weighs 33.43 grams and measures 34 mm across.
The first type carries on the obverse a Liberty head wearing a coronet and, on the reverse, a heraldic eagle. The second, designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, shows on the obverse Liberty walking towards the viewer, a torch and an olive branch in hand, and on the reverse an eagle in flight.

The Liberty type is the work of James Barton Longacre, who designed both sides.
Yes, three reverses follow one another: without motto from 1850 to 1866, with IN GOD WE TRUST and the abbreviated value TWENTY D. from 1866 to 1876, then with the value spelled out as TWENTY DOLLARS from 1877 to 1907.
The edge of the Saint-Gaudens is lettered E PLURIBUS UNUM, with the words separated by stars, whereas the edge of the Liberty type is reeded.
The obverse has 46 stars until 1911, then 48 from 1912 onwards. In the background, to the left of Liberty, stands the Capitol.
