The 100 Francs gold coin was struck between 1855 and 1914. It exists in two types: the 100 Francs Napoléon, bare or laureate head, and the 100 Francs Génie. Offered here is the 100 Francs Napoléon bare head, issued between 1855 and 1859.
The obverse shows the portrait of Napoléon III and the reverse the face value « 100 francs » on either side of the arms of the Second Empire, together with the year and the mint mark.
The 100 Francs is the largest of the French gold coins. It is 900 thousandths fine, weighs 32.25 grams, with a diameter of 35 mm.
