The 50 Francs gold coin was struck between 1854 and 1904 in three versions: Napoléon bare head, Napoléon laureate head and Génie. It is the first 50 Franc coin in French monetary history. Offered here is the bare head version.
The obverse shows Napoléon III in right profile and the reverse the face value « 50 francs » on either side of an eagle surrounded by the collar of the Legion of Honour. It is 900 thousandths fine, weighs 16.12 grams, with a diameter of 28 mm.
