The 10 dollar gold coin, known as the « Eagle », is a United States gold coin. It exists in two types, distinguished by their obverse: the Liberty, or Coronet Head, designed by Christian Gobrecht and struck from 1838 to 1907, and the Indian Head by Saint-Gaudens, struck from 1907 to 1933. On both types the reverse shows an eagle.
It is struck at 900 thousandths, weighs 16.72 grams, with a diameter of about 27 mm. The motto « In God We Trust » appears on strikes after 1866. These are coins from before 1933, the year gold was recalled in the United States.
