Frequently asked questions about the 2.5 Pesos of Mexico

Who engraved the portrait of Miguel Hidalgo?

The engraving is attributed to Albino del Moral. Hidalgo's bust, facing left, separates the value DOS Y MEDIO PESOS from the date.

Is there another 2.5 pesos gold coin from Mexico?

Yes. The Federal Republic struck a 2.5 pesos from 1870 to 1893 weighing 4.23 g at 875 fine, now demonetised, which shows the eagle on the cactus and the legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA. It is a different coin from the modern 1918 type we offer.

On which other Mexican gold coins does Hidalgo appear?

Hidalgo's portrait appears on the reverse of the gold 2.5, 5 and 10 pesos, but not on the 2, 20 or 50 pesos.
