The Latin Monetary Union coins are gold coins issued from 1865 by France, Belgium, Switzerland, Italy and Luxembourg, joined by Greece in 1868. They have the same size and weight as the French 20 Francs Napoléon, on which they are modelled: they are 900 thousandths fine, with a gross weight of 6.45 grams for a diameter of 21 mm.
Under the Paris Convention of 1865, these countries adopted a common monetary system allowing their gold and silver coins to circulate between the signatory states.
Depending on the issuing country, the obverse carries the effigy of a sovereign or a national allegory; the reverse shows the face value, surrounded by the arms or emblems of the country.
Please note: if you would like this coin in a particular version (year, effigy, detail and so on), please contact us before ordering so that we can tell you whether we hold it in stock. The price may then be revised according to the coin’s rarity and condition. The photograph is not contractual.
