Swiss 20 Francs Vreneli | Gold

The 20 Swiss Francs gold coin is emblematic of Switzerland.

It is 900 thousandths fine, with a gross weight of 6.45 grams for a diameter of 21 mm, the same physical characteristics as the 20 Franc gold Napoléon. These coins were struck from 1897 to 1949.

The 20 Swiss Francs was designed by Fritz Ulysse Landry. The name Vreneli refers to this coin and, more broadly, to a whole range of Swiss Confederation coins.

The obverse shows the face of a woman, « Helvetia », comparable to the French Marianne; the reverse carries the Swiss cross, the year of striking and the value of the coin in Swiss francs.
