The 10 Francs Turin was designed by Pierre Turin and struck from 1929 to 1939. It is 680 thousandths fine, weighs 10 grams and measures 28 mm across.
The obverse shows Marianne in right profile, wearing a Phrygian cap and a wreath, with the inscription « république française ».
The reverse has two ears of wheat framing the face value « 10 francs » and the year, with the motto « liberté, égalité, fraternité ».

The Semeuse, the Hercule, the Turin and the 100 Francs share neither the same gross weight nor the same fineness: identifying French silver francs and working out their value.
Pierre Turin's design was reused after the war on cupronickel 10 francs coins of 7 g and 26 mm, struck from 1945 to 1949. A date later than 1939 therefore points to the cupronickel version, as our guide to French silver francs explains.
The circulation issue carries the dates 1929 to 1934, then 1937, 1938 and 1939; no strike is recorded in 1935 or 1936. There is also a pattern dated 1929, separate from the circulation issue.
This type is linked to the privy marks of two chief engravers of the Paris Mint: Henri-Auguste-Jules Patey, in office until 1930, then Lucien Bazor from 1931. The signature P. TURIN appears on the Marianne side.
