The 5 Francs Semeuse silver coin was engraved by Oscar Roty and struck from 1959 to 1969. It is 835 thousandths fine, weighs 12 grams and measures 29 mm across.
The obverse shows the Sower, the figure of a woman sowing against the light, with the legend « république française ». This design, created by Oscar Roty, still appears today on the French euro coins.
The reverse carries the value « 5 francs » with an olive branch and the motto « liberté, égalité, fraternité », together with the year.
