The 50 Francs Hercule, known as the « Dupré », takes its name from its engraver Augustin Dupré. It was struck from 1974 to 1980. It is 900 thousandths fine, weighs 30 grams and measures 41 mm across.
The obverse shows the Hercules group, Hercules flanked by Liberty and Equality, with the legend « république française ».
The reverse carries the face value « 50 francs » and the year within a wreath, with the motto « liberté, égalité, fraternité ».

The Semeuse, the Hercule, the Turin and the 100 Francs share neither the same gross weight nor the same fineness: identifying French silver francs and working out their value.
They are privy marks: the horn of plenty of the Monnaie de Paris and the dolphin of Émile Rousseau, chief engraver of the Paris Mint from 1974 to 1994.
The name refers to coins dated 1974 struck with a die intended for a 20 Francs Hercule that never went beyond the project stage. On the Hercules side, Equality stands above Hercules' head, the branch is level with the drapery and the pedestal is longer.
The 60,000 coins dated 1980 all come from the Monnaie de Paris uncirculated sets. The 50 Francs Hercule was demonetised the same year, on 30 April 1980.
Not as a circulation coin. The recorded strikes include a 920 fine gold piedfort struck from 1974 to 1980, a gold pattern dated 1974, and silver and platinum piedforts: these are strikes separate from the silver coin offered here.
