Britannia 1 oz | Gold

The gold Britannia is a coin issued by the Royal Mint in the United Kingdom since 1987. The obverse carries the effigy of the British monarch; the reverse shows Britannia, the allegorical figure of the United Kingdom, standing, helmeted and holding a trident and a shield, designed by Philip Nathan.

Since 2013 it has been struck in gold at 999.9 thousandths, previously 916.7. It contains one troy ounce of gold, 31.1 grams, for a diameter of 32.7 mm. Recent strikes carry security features: a latent image, a background of fine waves and micro-text. Its face value is 100 pounds.
