American Eagle 1 oz | Gold

The Gold American Eagle is a one ounce coin, emblematic of the United States, with a face value of 50 dollars. Struck by the United States Mint since 1986, it is 916.7 thousandths fine and weighs 33.93 grams, for a diameter of 32.7 mm. It is struck exclusively from gold mined in the United States.

The obverse takes up the « Liberty » of the sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens, holding a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.

The reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, shows a nest of eagles, a symbol of the American family; beneath the wing of the large eagle is the motto « e pluribus unum », out of many, one.
