The 100 Francs gold Napoléon III, laureate head, is a French gold coin of the Second Empire. It was struck from 1862 to 1870 by the Paris (A) and Strasbourg (BB) mints. The obverse shows the effigy of Napoléon III wreathed in laurel, engraved by Désiré-Albert Barre; the reverse carries the crowned imperial shield surrounded by the collar of the Legion of Honour.
It weighs 32.26 grams at 900 thousandths, for a diameter of 35 mm. Its edge carries, incuse, the motto « Dieu protège la France ».
Its annual mintages are small, of the order of a few thousand examples per mint and per year.
