The 5 dollar gold coin, or « Half Eagle », in its Liberty or Coronet Head version, is a United States gold coin struck from 1839 to 1908. The obverse shows the Liberty head wearing a coronet, designed by Christian Gobrecht; the reverse carries a heraldic eagle. This is not the Indian Head version of 1908 to 1929.
It is struck at 900 thousandths, weighs 8.36 grams, with a diameter of 21.6 mm. The motto « In God We Trust » appears on strikes after 1866. These are coins from before 1933.
