Reichsmark | Gold

The Reichsmark coin is German in origin. It is 900 thousandths fine, weighs 7.96 grams, for a diameter of 22.5 mm, and was issued from 1871 to 1915.

It was struck by the various states of the German Empire, Prussia, Bavaria, Hamburg, Württemberg, Baden and Saxony, each with its own effigy; the most common examples are those of Prussia.

The Prussian Reichsmark carries on the obverse the bust of Emperor Wilhelm II in cuirassier uniform, with the inscription « deutscher kaiser könig von preussen », German emperor, king of Prussia; the reverse shows the imperial eagle bearing the collar of the Order of the Black Eagle, beneath the imperial crown.
